This in truth much caused the side being attacked to dig themselves into dug issues or cloud in holes where artillery had previously been dropped which would decrease the amount of casualties.

At this time, soldiers the initial bombing did not kill, would come ou t of concealment and prepare themselves for! a charge from the debate side. Machine guns, snipers, grenades often stopped the charge in its tracks. two sides would repeat this entire process and they would often trash over the same fields and patches of land for years.
